About Northern Works
Stories of Craft, Culture & Place
Who We Are
Northern Works is an independent editorial publication dedicated to exploring the intersection of craftsmanship, material culture, architecture, and thoughtful living. We believe that how we build, what we make, and where we travel reveals something essential about how we want to live.
Our Mission
We exist to tell stories that matter — stories of makers preserving traditional skills, architects working with natural materials, travellers seeking authentic cultural exchange, and communities building local economies rooted in craft and quality. In a world increasingly dominated by speed and scale, we champion slowness, intention, and the enduring value of things made well.
What We Cover
Craft & Design — From ceramics and woodwork to architectural materials and the philosophy of making, we explore how physical craft shapes our built environment and daily experience.
Place & Travel — We write about destinations through the lens of craft and culture — artisan tourism, slow travel, and the places where building traditions create unique hospitality experiences.
Culture & Living — The broader questions of how we choose to live: local economics, sustainable design, Scandinavian philosophy, and what makes a space feel like home.
Our Approach
Every piece we publish is written with care and research. We avoid clickbait, listicles, and superficial coverage. Our articles are long-form, thoughtful, and designed to reward careful reading. We write for people who value depth over speed and quality over quantity.
The Team
Northern Works is edited and primarily written by Erik Lindström, with contributions from architects, makers, travel writers, and cultural commentators across Europe and Southeast Asia. We are based in Scandinavia but our interests span the globe.
